Breaking News | New ITR Forms for AY 2020-2021 Notified | Income Tax Return Filing for AY 2020-2021
This blog will notify the taxpayers who are waiting to file income tax return (ITR) for the Financial Year 2019-20 & AY 2020-21. The Income-Tax (12th Amendment) Rules, 2020 is a vide realism, in the footstep parallel with the amendments ended by the 2019 Finance Act. On Friday, the CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes[1]) has informed the new Income Tax Return forms for FY 2019-20 / AY 2020-21. It comprises of ITR 1 –‘Sahaj’, ITR (2, 3, 4) ‘Sugam,’ ITR (5, 6, 7) in addition to ITR-V.
The CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) amended the manner of furnishing return of income and New Income Tax Returns Forms for the Assessment Year 2020-21. The Board empowered amended the Income-tax Rules, 1962 under Section 139, read with section 295 of the Income-tax Act, 1961.

Due to the situation arising out of the spread of coronavirus and the nationwide lockdown, the I-T department has delayed the process of issuing ITR forms this year. The ITR filing deadline has also been extended from July 31 to November 30.
In the forms notified by the government, taxpayers will now have dedicated space in each of the ITR forms – Sahaj (ITR-1), Form ITR-2, Form ITR-3, Form ITR-4 (Sugam), Form ITR-5, Form ITR-6, Form ITR-7 and Form ITR-V – to describe investments of expenditures made by them during the quarter ended June 30. These will get counted in deductions or exemptions.
Earlier this month, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced that due date for filing all income tax returns has been extended further from July 31 to November 30. The Centre had earlier extended the deadline for receiving Form-16 from 20th June 2020 to 30 June 2020 via an ordinance dated March 31, 2020.
ITR-1 Sahaj is used to file returns by ordinary resident individuals whose total income does not exceed Rs 50 lakh. Form ITR-4 Sugam is meant for resident individuals, HUFs and firms except LLPs with a total income of up to Rs 50 lakh and presumptive income from business and profession.
